BYD has become increasingly popular in Ireland recently, and three distinct models are leading the charge: the Atto 3, Seal, and Dolphin. We’ve examined each, what makes them so popular, and how they stack up pricewise.

BYD Atto 3
The SUV in this range, the Atto 3, has a 260-mile range and sits as a smart, modern SUV in its space. A clean exterior with sharp contours and the BYD distinctive rear lighting is matched by a luxury interior, which comes with a large touchscreen and classy finishes throughout.
Rated as 4/5 in AutoExpress and the car magazine, this model is fantastic value for money. With fast charging capability and advanced driving assistance, the Atto 3 packs plenty of punch for a fairly decent price.
New models come in around the €37,000 – €39,000 mark, with used models around €21,900. Compared against alternatives like the MG ZS and Kia Niro EV though, the Atto 3 lacks in boot space.

BYD Seal
Seen by many as a challenge to the Porsche Taycan and Tesla Model 3, the Seal won the Irish Times Best Car of 2024.
A clean and smart-looking car, the BYD Seal has a 354-mile range, reaches 62mph in 3.8s, and has a luxury look that exudes class on the road. On the inside, an elegant interior punches way above its price range. A large touchscreen and leather seating are matched with a panoramic sunroof to complete a top-level interior.
When you look at the price, it’s great value. The quality of this car should command a €60,000- €70,000 price, but this car comes in at €45,000. Fantastic value is a common phrase with BYD, and the Seal is no exception.

BYD Dolphin
A compact SUV, and an inner-city car, suited to short journeys and cutting through tight spaces.
An interesting look still holds BYD’s common features, and a full charge time of only 30 minutes means you can be on the road in no time. On the inside, the car lags behind the other two options on this list. While the finish is still good, the tech is lacking.
In saying this, the Dolphin is no slouch and still stands strongly against its competitors. The BYD Dolphin also comes with the advanced driving assistance package, which offers:
- Cruise control
- Auto braking
- Lane departure assist
- Intelligent high-beam control
A total range of 137 miles is a little underwhelming, but this car is made for short journeys in and around a city. The price of €17,000 is also fantastic value.
A Final Word
The three cars in this list all stand out in their respective fields, and it’s no surprise that BYD is taking the Irish market by storm. As production continues, it’s definitely one to watch in future, as BYD continues to push the limits of EV driving with innovative looks and charging capabilities. As an Irish customer, the variety of EVs has never been stronger.
